Your 6-Step Hearing Journey

We've designed a clear, supportive process to help you hear—and live—better.

1

Comprehensive Hearing Test

Your visit begins with a full diagnostic evaluation, which may include:

Case history & ear exam
Tone and speech testing in quiet and background noise
Tympanometry & reflex testing for middle ear function
Electroacoustic analysis (if you own hearing aids)
Functional surveys: Hearing Handicap Inventory & Vanderbilt Fatigue Scale

Value:

We understand the complete picture of your hearing health to guide your next steps.

2

Consultation & Personalized Plan

During your one-on-one consultation, we:

Review your results in easy-to-understand visuals
Explain how hearing affects your daily life and brain health
Discuss treatment options and insurance guidance
Consider your lifestyle, hobbies, and support system
Answer all your questions

Value:

You leave with a clear, personalized treatment plan and realistic expectations.

3

Professional Hearing Aid Fitting & Orientation

A professional fitting is the most important step in the hearing aid process.

Physical Fit: Ensuring your devices are secure and comfortable
Real Ear Measurements (REM): A tiny microphone measures actual sound delivery
Fine-tune your devices to your exact hearing prescription
Orientation & Training: insertion, removal, cleaning, and charging
Connecting to phones and accessories
Communication strategies and realistic expectations

Skipping this step is the #1 reason hearing aids fail to meet expectations.

Value:

Professional setup with Real Ear Verification ensures clarity, comfort, and long-term success.

4

Two-Week Follow-Up

We check in to:

Confirm comfort and sound quality
Fine-tune settings based on real-world experiences
Review care, cleaning, and streaming functions

Early adjustments ensure optimal performance and comfort.

5

Warranty & Protection

Your hearing aid warranty is provided by the manufacturer, not the audiologist. This means the warranty covers the device itself, but it does not cover professional services or routine maintenance provided in our office.

3-Year Manufacturer Warranty Includes:

Repairs for device malfunction
Remakes (if shell or fit needs adjusting)
One-time loss/damage replacement (deductible of about $325 applies)

Not Covered by the Manufacturer Warranty:

Professional services in our office (programming, adjustments, follow-up care)
Earmolds, domes, wax filters
Batteries or chargers

We want you to feel confident knowing your devices are protected by the manufacturer warranty. At the same time, our professional care is separate—so your ongoing service and support from our team remain personalized and flexible.

Adjusting to Your New Hearing Aids

Hearing loss happens gradually, so it takes time for your brain to reacclimate to new sounds:

1

Initial Overload

Sounds may seem louder or unusual

2

Brain Adjustment

Your brain adapts with consistent use

3

Full-Time Wear

8+ hours/day accelerates adjustment and improves clarity

We'll guide you at every follow-up to ensure a smooth transition.

"After 18 months of mediocre service from another Audiology Firm and considerable research on area Audiologists, i decided to see Sound of Life. I was initially impressed with the extra tests and detailed exam provided by Dr. Exkstrom. After examining various options, I chose to go with new hearing aids and custom molds. Unlike my my past experience, Dr. Exkstom has patiently and professionally worked though the fitting and adjustment period and has not been satisfied until the new hearing aids and mold were just right. Just an outstanding experience. Likewise, all of the office personnel and Audiologists that I have worked with have been very knowledgeable and professional. I would Absolutely recommend Sounds of Life."
